About Me: Female, 52, Nogales, AZ, member since Nov 2011
Hi I am a 47 yr old mom of three beautiful children. I have Chiari but I have not had an operation. I did have an operation for a syrinxs (syringomyelia) about 24 yrs ago. I was 24 yrs old then. I was left with a numb right leg due to nerve damage during the operation
[More] but I have my full strength in both legs. I am living a very happy life except for the fact that I have a husband that does not support me. Not only does he not support me through tough times but he bullies me through it all. My children ages are 19, 18, 16 and till now they do not know what is wrong with me. I am working on informing them about Chiari and syringomyelia without freaking them out. I know my husband will tell them I am just exaggerating and that I am not that sick. They know I suffer from headaches but do not know where they come from....
My family (husbands side) does not understand the severity of Chiari but they are very supportive when I am not feeling well. They do not understand chiari but they do understand pain. YES!
I live in Mexico right now but am very close to the USA and have my primary Doctors in Arizona. My mother lives in Arizona together with my youngest sister and her lovely family. My oldest sister is totally out of the picture since the death of my father..... huge fight over inheritance and she decided not to be a part of the family anymore....
I have struggled with Chiari's symptoms, asthma, allergies, tinnitus, migraines, Hashomoto's hypothyroidism, anxiety and depression, vertigo... etc. etc.
When I was born at 2 months old I suffered from bronchopneumonia and my parents were told I was not going to survive, but I did. I was given large dosages of tetracycline which stain my milk teeth and was told I was going to have my adult teeth grow back stained black but fortunately that was not the case my teeth are not white as snow but are ECRU! lol I did end up with very fragile teeth and I've had to endure endodontics on most of my molars... mmm not to bad...
Since then it has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 10 and put on a Milwaukee brace for 5 years. WOW That was hard. I was bullied for my teeth, I was bullied for my brace.... now as an adult I am bullied by my husband wow! To much to go through. But I am a devoted Catholic and i believe God has a plan for me. To make people happy! To be a compassionate person and to love with all my heart.
i would not trade my life with anyone right now. i am what I am because of what has happened to me and I like me!!!!
I have much to give and I have found that this forum is where I can help and love unconditionally.
Through his all, my mother has been my inspiration, my support, my shoulder to lean on...she has been the wings beneath wind!!!! She and my father are my heroes! Without them I would never have survived and learned the fundamentals of what life is really about. The pursuit of happiness!!!!
I know that when I die and go to heaven all my pain will subside and i will eternally live pain free.!!!
PS: English is my second language so if I make a mistake please be patient!
