I am a 57 y/o woman who never had a problem with my weight until I gained 75 lbs in 18 mo. and then my PCP diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. I had forgotten that a different PCP prior to this one a few years back kept having me go in for blood work for my thyroid. She k

[More]ept saying it was borderline. I wish so much I had known then what I know now about hypothyroidism because I would have told her to start me on thyroid medicine then. She could have started out with something low and checked again 3-4 mo later. i would not have gained all this weight. I have had tremendous difficulty losing any weight at all. Right after I was diagnosed I lost 25 lbs quickly and was so happy, but it stopped dead cold at 175. During the following year I gained back about 8 lbs and I could not take off one pound. Last year at this time I lost nearly 30 lbs and in the late summer early fall I gained 30 lbs very quickly. I don't know what is going on. I went to a new PCP today and had the worst experience I've ever had with a PCP. She told me I was causing her too many problems because I had a lot going on. She had been very inappropriate prior to that, but that statement was the last straw. A doctor does not tell a patient they are causing her too many problems. That's abusive!! I reported her to my insurance plan. It's no coincidence, but I had dreaded going to see her because I was having bad feelings about her and the bad feelings were not based on anything as I'd never met her. It was a strong intuitive feeling and now I see why. Does anyone know how to find a good PCP if you don't have a recommendation from someone? I'm new to Phoenix and don't know many people. I am trying to get back to PA where my daughter and granddaughter are and I've suffered from debilitating depression last spring and lasting thru October of last year.
