About Me: Female, 50, Southeastern WI, WI, member since Jan 2008
Auto immune hypothyroidism hasn't been kind to me as like millions of others.
I believe what happens to a person is meant to be - to grow. and when life throws you Lemons (like thyroid disease) you must make lemonade by empowering yourself with knowledge! After becoming well it changes one's goals, priorities, behaviors and offers you a re-thinking of how you want the life your meant to have.
After my long struggle disabled, unemployed, and a hypothyroid zombie on dozens of meds that almost killed me, I learned many things about me and spent countless hours educating myself on what I needed to live stable and well. My passion grew with my health, as years have gone by to help others in what I have learned about the body needs and ability for wellness as a global patient endocrine and bio-identical - thyroid advocate.
I have been on nearly every thyroid medication. Synthetic and Natural desiccated thyroid. Before I found NDT as superior treatment, nothing I had here gave me relief entirely from this disease. No matter how many times I told my doctor I felt bad - they didn't listen. I searched the "soul of the internet" to find answers. I won - BIG TIME!
I dabble alot in natural health, diet and Chinese medicine - but far from a genius mind. Holistic healing has been very good for me. Seeing positive things going gluten free (for life) as a diet change was needed. I grew tired of taking "pills" everyday to supplement myself so I went back to learn more. Thyroid disease with a host of many other conditions "require" certain supplements to accommodate the treatment to work properly. Depending on your needs, depends on what you must take and how much to take of certain things. This journey has been amazing for me both positive and "almost ready to give up" negative. I had a crazy idea while beginning the recovery transistion to take photos of myself going through the healing. My father always said "A picture is worth a thousand words," and seeing these proved him right - again.
I also take an Iodine maintance dose having positive Hashimoto/Graves antibodies which is uncommon for autoimmune patients. I follow a simple diet and stay away from all sugars and flours and now gluten free. I have lost all my hypoweight that I gained (total 65 pounds) and down to where I was before I got married at 138. I still would like to lose 10 more - just for fun!
I am also one of the Co Leaders on the Thyroid forum and Adrenal Forums. I also participate on Facebook with the Coalition for Better thyroid Care, Save Natural Thyroid and part of the January Thyroid Awareness team along with a New Dawn for Thyroid Disease, and Dear Thyroid.
Graves/2003 - RAI 2004 and Hashimoto/2008 hypothyroidism.RAI to ablate hyperthyroidism but ravenged in illness because of duo toxicosis autoimmune and was NOT properly treated. Presently I have 2% function left of natural thyroid function left after RAI. Nodule was located Nov 07 with solid structure and high risk - inability to preform FNA deep lesion.
"Seek,Search and Suprise yourself.. you WILL be well again!" This disease is NOT the end but a beautiful beginning to live absolutely well again. Be proactive in your quest and talk, talk, talk to others that have been in your shoes, not so long ago :) Peace and health be with you all.
hi I have a question I hope you can answer. was on 60mg Armour (felt GREAT) when lab tests came back TSH very low so doc said too much thyroid and lowered Armour to 45mg ...feeling terrible again. I accidently took my dosage 2x (forgot I already took) the other day so I was getting 90mg. Within a little while felt great again. Is that possible or was it in my head?
