My main symptom was just very very bad pain in the front of the knee (no pain reliever touched it) and over half the time when I climbed the stairs I felt like my knee was going to go out on me. Sometimes there is a build up of pressure in my knee and I just want my knee to pop to release the pressure. Sometimes this helps sometimes it does not.
One of my orthopedic doctors did prescribe a knee brace with a patella stabilizer and that helped some, but it was very itchy. Of which I know why now, it was neoprene and many types of neoprene have latex and I am allergic to latex. Good luck and I hope this helps. Like I said the best thing I ever did was find a good chiropractor who treats my knee. The difference is night and day after he adjusts it.
I too was diagnosed with chrondomalacia, by one doctor and patella femoral chondrosis by another. The best thing that I found that helped my knee pain was going to a good chiropractor who treats knees. You may have to try more than one. I am on my fourth and definitely the best. I have had better results from going to him than all my years or physical therapy. good luck, achilles2
