I have been battling Hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's Thyroidtitis for decades. It went undiagnosed and untreated far too long, leaving me with many health problems. As a result my beautiful hair turned gray, became dry and brittle and was falling out. I gained 100 ... [More] pounds within three months without eating more and I was working out an hour a day. I suddenly had no energy to work out and kept falling asleep during the day. I had short term memory problems that affected my work and social life. I became depressed. I was cold and tired all the time. My skin became dry and my nails became brittle. I started having bowel and digestive problems. My blood pressure shot up to 160 over 110. My cholesterol was 300 (and it was the LDL that was high). My triglycerides were way too high. I started having allergy and asthma problems. I got lots of sinus infections, colds and flu. I ended up with bronchitis that turned in to pneumonia. My face, feet and ankles became puffy. I started having problems with plantars facitis, chronic joint pain, and sleep apnea. I began to not function well and was about to lose my job. All I wanted to do was sleep all the time, night and day. I went on like this for a very long time and yet every doctor I went to see didn't recognize that I had Hypothyroidism and didn't test me for it. It wasn't until I started getting blinding headaches that would last non-stop for a week or more and kept me in bed, that I finally got a diagnosis. I went to a neurologist. He did an MRI and a CAT scan and also ran some blood work. The MRI and CAT scan looked normal. However, my blood test revealed I had Hypothyroidism and it was due to Hashimoto's Thyroidtitis. The neurologist referred me to a specialist who put me on Synthroid. For a year I struggled with Synthroid and still couldn't function. One day I managed to pull myself out of bed, determined to find an answer. I did research on the computer and found Mary J. Shomon's book, "Living Well with Hypothyroidism". Her book saved my life. I learned about Armour Thyroid and found a doctor that was willing to prescribe it to me. I am doing much better on Armour Thyroid and have been on it now for five years. However, I still suffer bouts of what I call a "thyroid attack" and don't feel well. I have my good and bad days. Although Armour Thyroid has made a world of difference in my life, I still am not my old self like I was before I became Hypothyroid. I used to have so much energy and spunk and was as sharp as a tack. I long to be like that again. I miss my old self and am trying to find "me" again, not "Hypothyroid-me". I am searching for answers on how to solve this problem and restore myself to the way I used to be. [Less]
