About Me: Female, 71, Findlay, OH, member since Apr 2013
I am 68 years old. Have had 7 back surgeries, and was diagnosed in 2004 with early Alzheimer's. My short term recall is starting to progress, but I am still living on
[More] own with family very close by. I was an advocate for the Alzheimer's Association and have been to my state capital and Washington D.C. and spoke to Senator's about
what dementia is like, and how important it is that the funding is there for research
and home health care and other care such as assisted living.I have also made speeches
to health care workers about what it feels like to have this disease and some pointer
subjects from patient view rather than caretaker. I co-chaired a support group monthly
for people with early onset dementia, or those who feel something is wrong but not
sure just what it is. People can come and just listen if that is what they want. No one
is pushed to say anything if they don't desire to. Currently, I am having other physical
health problems, and am not active now, but hope that will change. I just want us to all live in a world without Alzheimer's!!!
