About Me: Male, 25, United Kingdom, member since Jun 2008
I'm 25yr old male and have suffered clinical depression for my entire life with 2 failed suicide attempts. Former alcoholic (clean 3 years).
I'm a care professional that works with children and young adults with profound multiple learning disabilities, severe autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and speech/sensory impairments. I have also worked heavily in mental health primarily with mood-affective disorders, addiction, suicidal ideation, sex offenders, personality disorders and the psychosis spectrum.
Current ambition is to become a nursery nurse. A hard task when you're a young adult male!

It's hard for bipolars to get a job.
We don't keep them because our illness gets in the way.
Now we ADA to accomindate us.
We do get overstimulated and overwhelmed.
I'm a Brit too. Have had a wide range of medications over the years. Never heard Welbutrin mentioned as an alternative when other drugs became ineffective. Currently on Venlafaxine XL (Effexor) + Zopiclone for insomnia. It's been said that Wellbutrin's not got the 'loss of libido' side effect as much as other SSRIS. Also heard that that ain't so. So you pays your prescription & takes your choice! Must say that all the drugs I've been prescribed have worked to some extent, with similar side effects. Psychiatrists seem to go for whatever's latest from drug companies, but am not convinced that's the best policy. Hopefully you'll get well soon & maybe get to be drug free. CBT's well worth learning, as is Meditation. Seroxat for several years was OK, but it went out of fashion. Good Luck.
