Bill - I also saw your comment on the lhoward post on ESLD. I may have contracted the disease during military service in 72. Treatment is different for everyone. I can's say it has been easy for me, but I would start again today. There are certainly worse things to be afflicted with than the side effects from interferon/ribavirin. Learn all you can about the disease and treatment and get a good hepatologist (this part is particularly important). A good doc can help you make the right decisions. Good luck. I hope your situation improves.

So don't let it scare you. It can be tough, very tough, but not for everyone. And there are good days and bad days. But we are all here to help each other out and that is the way we are able to get through it. Just read as much as you can and ask questions. We are all quite cool here, nobody asks another person how they got it. It doesn't matter how one got it, it matters how to get rid of it!! Looking forward to seeing you around. Marcia
Have you had a biopsy. The replication of the virus has nothing to do with the progression of the disease. The only way you can really see the state of your liver, which the HCV is attacking, is a biopsy. So do not let her scare you into this. You need to be well prepared for treatment and not get rushed into something you are not comfortable with. What other tests were done? Did you have an ultra sound scan? That would only be able to show more advanced liver disease, an enlarged spleen, gall baldder stones etc.
I would suggest you read a lot on the forum. We discuss all kinds of things. Treatment might seem a bist drastic, as most people who are on a forum is because they are having trouble with treatment. The people who are not, usually do not seek support.
Hi Bill, I just saw that you placed a question on an old thread. That's probably why no one answered. Please post a new question and people will answer. The viral load does not contribute to the damage which is done to the live. VL is just an indicator of how much virus there is in the blood at the time and can fluctuate a lot. It is used as a reference when one does treatment, to see how fast one reacts to the medication. Your biopsy will show how much damage you have. Usually it is indicated as grade and stage. Grade being the grade of inflammation and stage being the stage of fibrosis.. cirrhosis. They go from 0-4. You should ask for copies of all your tests. Hope this helped a bit. Marcia
