About Me: Female, 34, Long Island, NY, member since Oct 2008
I went to my PCP in July because I sudden;y started drinking a lot of water. There is a history of diabetes in my family and I thought I might have it. I had other symptoms as well, itchy skin (especialyy in the groin area), dry mouth, blurry vision, headaches - the w
[More]orks. I had blood work done, took the fasting 2 hour glucose tollerance test, and had an MRI just in case. The blood work and glucose test came back normal, but they found a cyst on my pineal gland and I went to a neurologist for further testing - they told me it was nothing to worry about but put me on Topomax to manage the headaches (started med on 9/8).
In the meantime, I also had a urine dip test done becasue it burned when I urinated and I had a minor UTI - my PCP gave me antibiotics to clear up the infection (this is on 8/9). The infection didn't clear up. It took approx. 3 weeks to get a return call from my dr. to get a refill perscription on the antibiotics and they were changed to 250 mg of amoxicillin 3x daily. I took them with no change and had to go back to my PCP on 9/12. At that time she gave me a 7 day supply of Levaquin with a refill for another 7 days and sent me for a Renal ultrasound becasue it felt like the infection was spreading; my back was hurting and I was very uncomfortable. I took the first perscription and when the infection did not clear up I called my PCP and she told me to take the refill as well - I never got my ultrasound results.
At the same time, I had my annual Gyno. exam. My pap came back abnomal and I had to have a colposcopy on 10/3. I told my Gyno about the other problems I was having and in addition to the biopsy, she sent out for other test as well (unkown). I got the results on 10/22 and they were all negative/normal.
Back to my PCP - I called them after the 2nd course of Levaquin and told them that the infection had not gone away and they referred me to a Urologist. I had my ultrasound results forwarded to the Urologists and he was able to review them and said that everything was normal. However, becasue it still burned when I urinated he wants to perform a cystoscopy (sceduled for 11/6).
In the meantime - my right toenail on my big toe is now falling off. I have not stubbed my toe or had any other recent trauma. I looked online and it appears to be a Beau Line, but I'm not sure. I also still have my infection. I don't know what to do at this point. I went to my PCP 3 times, my Gyno 2 times anf the Urologist 1. On each visit I had a urine dip test done and they were all normal. My PCP sent the 3rd sample out for cultures which were also negative and the Urologist did the same.
I don't know if everything is connected or if I happen ot have a really bad infection, a brain cyst and a toe fungus all at the same time, but so far all of my tests are normal.
