About Me: Female, 43, baltimore, MD, member since Nov 2008
I was born with a congenital defect in both my kidneys. Because my kidneys function at 50% doctors have put me through hell. For about ten years now I have had the same urologist. A nephrologist can not help me until my kidney function changes. So hence I see a urologis
[More]t because the kidneys back up and the urine goes up instead of down. So I have had MRSA-Kidney Infections, Bladder infections numerous times. I went to JHU they decided a Nephrostomy would be better. Now after I had it placed a week later they pulled out the stent and I had a massive infection. Back to the hospital because a major infection came out. This left me with Cipro by IV and pain meds. But then I began to feel better! Everything was great until they thought they could take it out and I would be fine! Notttt. So once again I had to fire the urologist and go back to my PCP for a renal ultrasound which proved my kidneys were not fine. So now the nephrostomy stays for the rest of my life and I have made peace with it. I get a change of the catheter now once a month and my left kidney gets cleaned out to help the urine try to flow correctly. I am hopeful that I will only have one urine bag in the right and the left will hold. But have faith never give up and fire whoever is stuck on stupid it is your life and your body!! They maybe the Dr but you are the master of your body and you know when you are well and when you are not. Always remember that and fire anyone that does not get it! Peace Charbie
