Thought I would fill you in on my surgery...Feb. 8, aneurysmn repaired, mechanical valve replaced with cow tissue valve, had to have permanenet pacemaker. Heart was completely blocked by scar tissue (common for mechanical valves..so I heard) Going back tomorrow for fluid on lung removal. Been a rough time.
Just a quick note to say hi! Have not been on this site for a while....Having open heart on Feb. 7 @ Duke. Still not really decided if going to have another mechanical valve or opt for tissue. Tired of coumadin..can't get it adjusted after 25 years. My surgeon is recommending tissue. I am 62 and hopefully it will last at least 12-15 years. If I have to have it replaced there will be a procedure that can be done called transcather (sp) which will not require the opening of the chest. In fact, that procedure has been done in the U.S. but it is done tissue-to-tissue...that might be an option for you. Take care...will let you know what happens.
