About Me: Female, 43, Valencia, CA, member since Jan 2009
My downward spiral started at age 33 when I had my first TIA. I was in the shower..minding my own business (LOL) and all of a sudden my right hand went limp. My head wanted me to speak but my brain wouldnt let me...very scary. It lasted about 3 minutes. I had no ide
[More]a what hit me! My girlfriend took me to emergency. They ran cat scans, bloodwork, ecg, neuro test..etc....to find nothing. The doctor said looks like you had a mini-stroke due to possible migraine. Interesting...I have had migraines before but they havent been a problem thats for sure. I went to a neuro specialist who doped me up on drugs...couldnt even keep my eyes open! I wasnt very happy. About a month or so later I found out that I had a Patent Foramen Ovale (hole in heart) which could have caused the TIA. They (Dr.'s) had mixed feelings on weather to fix it or not. Well...while they were pondering that I had a full fledged stroke. It took away my sight peripheally on the left side. Needless to say I was hospitalized with a slew of tests that were ran every hour on the hour. EVERYTHING normal...and so we go back to the migraines. Ugh!
Ok..so fast forward 3 years...highly medicated for all 3 of course. We come to 9-08 and I decide to go see a Rheumatologist...on a hunch of course. I have always had symptoms of Lupus ie.. painful joint, infections, swollen hands, headaches...yada yada.
At last a positive ANA !!! Woopee! Not only that but my thyroid is all out of wack. Im thinking..wow..are we on to something here?? So here I am trying to find out the truth about why for the past (actually most of my life) so many years have I felt so bad?! This is definitely a new chapter but I need to make sure that I am not consumed by these diseases. I am ready to move on and be free of the mystery...so is my partner. I want to love life again and be happy. Dont we all?
