Hi, My DS (now 10 1/2, dx at 4 1/2) didn't really qualify as an Aspie, either, due to the specific interest thing too. It actually didn't start showing up until he got older and had a little more freedom to select his activities, books, etc. It didn't dawn on me until just a few weeks ago at the library when I suggested a book to him and he said, "But mom, I just want to think about birds right now! If I read that, I can't think about birds and my brain will get all confused!" He's still not totally Aspie-obsessive about it, but if he had to pick a topic, that would be the go-to one for right now. I think birds has been his thing for about a year now. :) I also have a brother and nephew diagnosed with Aspergers. Add in my dad with his neuro issues and we're one big quirky neuro salad! LOL
