Do I maybe have ADHD? Adderall(adderrall) yielded amazing results! WHY!?!?!

Without a doubt I have some kind of anxiety disorder. After doing some of my own research and experiments, I think I may have some sort of hybrid condition I'm dealing with here.

So after reading through things online I learned that there are actually many different types of ADD/ADHD and many go misdiagnosed. So as I read this I began to think about some of my symptoms:

I am not your standard ADD kid case - I have always been able to perform exceptionally well in school. In fact, I feel that I might have some sort of inverse ADD condition. I am generally a shy person with low self-confidence and low energy. I was never a huge fan of sports and academics was the only thing that I seemed to be able to find some sort of motivation to excel in. I hate competitions and spend way too much time in my head. Though I surely have a general anxiety disorder at least, I am wondering if maybe I have some ADD type symptoms also.

This idea came to me after experimenting with Adderall (adderrall). I know this drug is prescribed to people with ADD (the kid who sits next to me who can't pay attention in class). I have taken this drug numerous times because I was absolutely fascinated with the effects it had on me. I'll have you know that every time I have taken this medication it has been a standard dosage and I paid attention to the effects it had on my body; so no, I'm not dazzled with the euphoric rush that many users experience the first few times they take this drug (although I enjoyed it of course). After having taken this drug for about 10 days in a row, I really feel that a prescription could change my life. Never before had I been so confident and energetic. It was absolutely amazing - for the first time in gym class I realized how people find enjoyment from playing sports! I was excited to get the ball! For the first time in my life, competition was exhilarating and I loved it! For the first time all my normal anxieties went out the door and in stepped the person I had always dreamt of being. For the first time I had self-confidence and energy! Now I could talk to girls that I liked! I could do things that I had never been able to do before because I was too anxious and scared!!

I would also consider myself a "type A" person. Though many kids who take this drug don't enjoy it at all, I seem to benefit from it so much. My experiences left me with a few questions:

1. After having read similar success stories with Adderall (adderrall) and people with anxiety, how come this medication is not even ALLOWED to be prescribed for anxiety?
2. If perhaps I don't have anxiety, what do I have? Why does this medication effect me so positively?

I am currently in the process of weaning myself off Paxil which I was prescribed for anxiety. This drug rendered its self absolutely useless and I have been so lucky to stumble upon something that works so well - Adderall (adderrall)!

After talking to my psychologist,

Why is it that I am deprived of this drug that I experience so many benefits from while I have peers who have this stuff forced down their throats?

Any imput on this...anyone?? Thanks alot

Ah geeez, I really hate to say this because I think that adderall (adderrall) used correctly can really make a difference for people with ADHD/ADD - but the effects you are describing are pretty close to the same effects I felt in college when I discovered a tiny pink pill we could get from Tijuana.  Ya, it was called speed.  It can be really addicting.  You will develop a tolerance to it which means you will have to keep increasing the dosage.  And yes, it definitely will provide the feelings you have felt.
If you check my posts on this forum, you can see that I have been (I think) pretty helpful to people with ADHD/ADD.  I (and this is only based on the way you described how adderall (adderrall) worked for you) don't think you have ADHD/ADD.  I do think that you are getting the "speed" type of reaction.  But I am no doctor!  The worse thing is I am not sure how to help you.  About all I can suggest is that you have seen a different "you".  You have seen what "you" can do.  Some people use alcohol to find that person.  That person is in you.  The trick is to find that person without such a dangerous drug.
It is possible that you have an underlying physical condition which did not allow "you" to come forth - which a complete blood workup would rule out.
Its possible that you are now mature enough to take control of your life without resorting to "the easy way out".  This will not be easy, but the payoff is huge.  Get out and do something different!  Start exercising.  It will hurt for awhile, but eventually a natural rush will occur that will do wonders for you.
In regards to your anxiety, its possible that you are now aware of what you can be - but aren't.  That would make me very anxious.  Or it could be as simple as you are at a point in your life where you are ready to leave home and go out into a whole different world - I know that scared the hell out of me about 47 years ago.
Ok, I hope I haven't bummed you out.  I think your psyc is probably saying some of the same thing - doesn't mean either of us are right.  Just think about it.  You are obviously a very sharp person.  Do look at all possibilities.   And heck, frankly, this is a time of life where people experiment - but  also try a few other methods.  Good Luck!
