Does Ritalin eventually stop working?

Hi, I have been taking Ritalin (20 mg) not for ADD but for another health issue since January of 2015. From then on until around May of this year it was doing wonders for me. I was at the top of my class without really trying, I felt happy and confident, and I lost a significant amount of weight (Before I was slightly overweight as I had been my whole childhood, and after I was at a normal weight and was actually needing to eat more than usual just to maintain it). Since May, I have not felt like myself, I have gained about seven pounds and while that isn't alarming or anything I just feel bloated and have no self-confidence. It's more difficult to get things done and I feel completely antisocial, even amongst my closest friends. Granted, I am leaving for college in a few weeks, but I didn't feel any notable stress or anxiety when this all started so I don't believe that could be the driving factor. So, I'm wondering if Ritalin can eventually plateau, and if there is anything I can do to reverse this? Going off of it isn't really an option because the issue I have is not one that can be cured, only maintained.

It really depends on what your other condition is.  I know some people with take medication "breaks" to help with the plateau.
Also, just in case you changed your morning breakfast.  OJ or  any citric acid drink taken just before the med, will really hurt the effectiveness of a stim medication.  I also know that a high protein breakfast will really help those with ADHD.  Don't know if it will help you, but its pretty easy to add a high protein drink and see if you notice the effects.  Also, if your sleep habits have recently changed - lack of sleep will dramatically effect how you work during the day.
But, all in all, you probably need to talk with your doc and get a dosage increase.  Do so before leaving for collage as it will be much harder to communicate with your doc from there.
Let us know what happens.  Best wishes!!
