Yes, it is difficult to get an IEP for a child with ADHD (which is ridiculous). But the 504 is still very helpful. Ashley's book ("The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley.) on page 81 does give the specific criteria necessary to meet eligibility as Other Health Impaired. I will answer your question on meds in your post with that question.
I have tried numerous times to get an IEP, each and every time I was told my son had to be deficient in ALL areas of testing, which he is not. I know an IEP would give him a greater foothold academically, but a 504 is what we have. He requires a lot of studying/repetition (in small increments) to complete homework. His grades are average, when he focuses. Otherwise his grades are well below average.
But everyday is a new day and am thankful that he is happy and healthy.
Saw this after my post to you.
It sounds like he was over dosed (too much medication) on the Concerta. The doc should have gone to a lower dose. It may also be that it just wasn't a good fit for him. The meds all are a little bit different and effect the kids differently.
I doubt that the Omega 3 will do much good. However with his allergies, you might want to check out this link as some foods will certainly make the symptoms worse.

Glad to hear he got an IEP. Typically with ADHD that is more difficult to get then a 504 plan, but is more effective.
I researched Gaba Plus and it looks like it will help with anxiety and help him sleep at night. Unfortunately, I really didn't find much that would indicate it would help with his concentration. What will help him the most is you becoming the expert on ADHD and how it effects him. I suggest you read my post to Aquine here -

as I listed many resources to help.
Please post if you have questions. Best wishes.
I was told that multivitamins for children with omega can help children with ADHD in a safer way. By helping with memory and focusing issues.
My 8 year old has ADHD but we tried Concerta and I personally didnt like it. He got a lot of headaches and he would go from zombie during the day to really overly excited and stimulated at night. Now we are taking a safer route. He is about to start counseling to learn ways to cope and work with ADHD. Also, he now has a IEP at school. I've never heard of Gaba.
