Help for Adderall

Hello I'm 29 years old and have been taking adderall for several months and have also found it not as effective. I have  (rather my doctor has) upped my dose twice and now take 30 mg twice a day. i have read that if you take tums or a teaspoon of baking soda 45 min before dose that it will make it more potent and last longer so I'm willing to try. Basically if ur stomach is too acidic it will eat up the adderall which is a salt. My medicine not working as well frustrates me bad! I don't think it's working anymore but at the same time I don't want to take a break from it because I
might be a zombie with out it. I take several medications that make me kind of sedated. Such as risperdal, lexapro, neurotin. and amitriptyline. I have fallen asleep and ran off the road before and could fall asleep basically doing anything. So I understand there are people who need this medication and as of any medication I also know there are pros and cons and researched the med as well as spoken to my Dr about it. i tried XR and didn't like it. I'm starting to think maybe I should change the medicine. I have heard that people have taken a break to "reset" for tolerance which mine seems really high!  There are several options such as Desoxyn, dexamphetamine, Dexedrineamphetamine, dexadrine, vyvanse, concerta, and modatil. These are a few I have ran across and  I'm sure there are more. I don't know very much about these but I'm looking into it. If anybody has had a similar problem and has found an answer I would appreciate any help! Experience with tums? Taking a break to regain tolerance? How long? And people that have changed to different drug... Please no post telling me not to take Adderall and I'm aware of side effects. Thank you!

Take a look at wikapedias site on ADHD. There are several subtypes and even a new thing called Slugish Cognative Tempo or SCT. Different meds work better on one subtype than another. You need to find out which on they have to start. Low dose Dexidrine I think works better on inattentive type ADD and SCT, where as Rittalin will drive them up the wall, overloading them causing mood swings mania etc. I have heard that Rittalin works best for ADHD. You will notice the effect within min of taking the meds if they are the right one for the individual. Better impulse control such as a decrease in motor mouthing for ADHD for example and they will calm down. Some one with SCT will do better with fuctioning in complex social situations like a room full of people having conversations. Their processing speed with will increase so they can keep up with whats going on and not feel so lost. If your child is not hyperactive, and seems slow and spacy in complex social situations, Type in SCT on Wikapedia and check it out. SCT is just starting to be recognized, is far less common and is mistaken for inattentive ADD .  For all of these subtypes, take the smallest dose you can. Less is more in my opinion. I have SCT and low dose Dexedrine has almost no side affects at all. It works really well.

Thanks so much I will try the protien breakfast! I tried taking two tums 45 min before taking it and I didn't really notice a difference. I've been looking at other options and vyvanse so far seems to be the way to go. Do you know anything about Dexedrine ?

Apparently having a high protein breakfast can really make a difference in how well the meds will work for you.  this link explains that - http://www.corepsych.com/2007/02/power-breakfast-recipe-1-eat-protein/
And yes, something like Vyvanse will last much longer and should be smoother acting.  Here is a link on all (or most) of the meds.

If you have ADHD, you really shouldn't (from what I understand) have to take a break to regain tolerance.  If you don't have ADHD and are taking it for other reasons, then yes.
Hope some of this helps.  Best wishes.
