I think my son have had a loss of oxygen during birth

My 6 year old son has the mentality of a 2 year old, he has the symptons of ADHD, Autisme and his mentally developement is very behind, he doesn't write read or has any patience at all, when he can't get things done.He doesn't know what being a little quiet is or doesn't know any dangers. My question is if maybe all of this may be that he had some lack of oxygen during birth. Because when his head got out the first thing he did before crying was taking a gasp of air. And sometimes still when he cries to much he doesn't pause to grasp air and falls to the ground (Like fainting but concious)an his muscles begins to cramps and he suddunly becomes very still and  I have to blow air into his face until he reacts, and when he reacts it's like he doesn't even know what just happend. How do I know if his mental development  was caused because of this and how do I know if he did have a lack of oxygen? Is there some type of test that can be done to show this?

Well, it is a good thing that he took a gasp of air when he was born. That would get the oxygen in him. :) My son didn't. The cord was wrapped around his neck and they had to breathe for him until he revived. Anyway... it sounds like he's having breath-holding spells. Some kids do this when they get too upset and forget to breathe. Usually if they don't breathe, they will pass out and start to involuntarily breathe on their own again. My friend's daughter did this, and they still have to blow in her face sometimes.

I do think that if you have concerns about his development, you should bring it up with his doctor and they can refer you to the right place. I don't believe that there is a test to look for oxygen deprivation, but hospitals do keep their records and you can request them to see if something happened during his birth. In the end though, it's not important what caused the delays...it's more important to focus on what to do now.

Good luck.
