Meds made things worse???

Meds made things worse???

After almost a year of struggling to get my 15 yr old son to try Focalin XR, he took it today for the first time.  He had a bad reaction to Concerta a few years ago when a dosage was increased, and since then has been anti-meds.  High school, especially this year, has been a nightmare grade-wise, even though he has a high IQ and was in gifted programs through elementary and middle school.  His GPA this year stands at 1.5 right now, and he isnt even eligible for athletics, at which he is very successful.  He isnt a kid who is hyperactive, but is very distractable, easily bored,  disorganized, etc.  He can take a test and do very well, but will not turn in assignments, and destroy his grades due to missing work.

Anyway, after much ado, he tried the Focalin XR 20 mg.  He said that it didnt bother him except his stomach felt a bit funny early in the day.  He said it "slowed things down too much and made them more boring than usual."  He actually seemed a little more pleasant than usual when I talked to him, but said he probably did less work, and had many drawings in his notebook.

I will be calling the doctor tomorrow.  The dose is low for a kid his size- he is 6'3" and about 175 lbs- but then again its not dosed on size.  Just wondering if anyone here who is actually on meds has had any experience like this.
