My 8 year old son is on the exact same medication and has a huge appetite, maybe they need to lower the dosage or like someone else said, food first... My son eats like no bodies business but also he will feel sick and not eat if it's taken on an empty stomach.

well he try ask how the concerta makes him feel, as that may help you understand why hes not eating maybe

because i take concerta and it makes me feel like a zombie :(
although i do have a good appetite

so my theory is maybe the concerta is making him feel drained and that causing him not wanting to eat much  - just an idea
but yeah if your worried best speak to the doctor

My son has been on adhd medication for 6 years and i have had the same problems, but before he takes his 18 mg concerta, he must eat all his breakfast. His breakfast is a lot more than his lunch. Then i also give him melon juice every morning.

My girls are also on Concerta 36mg, and have a smaller appetite on their meds. Over time they have adjusted and started eating better, and sometimes I try to sort of talk them into eating like 5 bites of everything on their plate even if they arent hungry. I explain to them that if they dont eat they will end up sick and in the hospital. I have not had as much trouble the past few months though. Also, my youngest had Clonadine (sp?) added to her meds. She takes one pill that is .01 or .1 mg at bed time to help her sleep because she gets a little extra energy when the Concerta wears off at night. The Clonadine helps her sleep, helps the Concerta work during the day and has helped a bit with her appetite. My 1 year old still eats regardless, just less than she does when she doesnt take her meds. They are both very thin so I still worry about it as their mother, but their doc doesnt seem to worry at all.
If you dont mind me asking what is the Methylphenidate in the afternoon for?

my son has been on adhd medications for over a year, and i have had problems since about getting him to eat.  he now takes 60mg adderall xr, and the problem is greater.  for the meals that i can get him to eat, i make sure they are high in calories and  sufficient in protein.  but he still is skinny as ever.  hint--feed hime first then give the medication...good luck...

Before you switch, you may try to make him eat a good meal before he takes his meds.  If he still doesn't want to eat, don't hesitate to switch.  Good luck and God bless.

I had the same problem with my son on several of the adhd medicines. They have had to switch him to find one where he had an appetite.
