Possible of affects of Adderal

My wife began taking adderal about 9 days ago, after the first two days of taking this prescription she packed her bags and left me and my two children. She indicates that she no longer wants to be us, and her desirenow no is to answer to noone, do anything she wants and party like she wants until she gets her head straight( These are her exact words). Our marriage has not been perfect, but it is no where near bad enough to cuase her to not only leave me but the children as well. She has always loved me and the kids greatly and has never given any signs that this was about to happen. We have talked once or twice in the last few days and Her behavior now is border line bi-polar. One minute she is calm and communicating then mid-sentence literally she shifts gears and starts cursing and yelling in a manner which not understandable. This is not anything like the woman I have been married to for 7 years now. What has happened? Could Adderal have produced this type of side affects? She has indicated that she is going out and drinking as much as she wants every night. This is while taking the Adderal. Can the combination of alcohol and Adderal produce the type of behavior I have descibed? All the help I can get would be greatly appreciated, My home and family are not the same without my wife.

I am so sorry you and your family are going through such hard times.  You sound like a wonderful father and husband.  I pray that your wife will come to her senses and get the help that she needs.  Thank God those children have a loving father taking care of them. hi,,,im taking ritalin (basically the same as adderall) and i have adhd ,and this drug makes me calm and sleep like a baby,,she is acting the oposide so i wonder why shes on adderal( wich is amphetamin related),,and NR 1 she should NOT be drinking while using this it can cause her a heart attack or death ! simple as that.i think you should tallk to her dr ,this is playing w fire.And yes she is propably behaving like this cus of the drugs and the drinking.she is probably not thinking straight..best wishes and good luck.

  Like I said, the things that you are relating just don't sound like side effects from Adderall. My family has been taking relatively high doses for years and never experienced any of what you're saying. To my knowledge bruising can be worsened by a certain vitamin deficiencey but has nothing to do wit Adderall. Do call her doctor and tell him what has happened and ask for a private consultation. You have the right to tell him things about his patient although he has no right to discuss her with you. I wish you good fortune in this. I really can't see where she's coming from and it's heart breaking to say the least.

I wanted to say thank you for ll the input you guys have been providing me with. It is much appreciated. The last few days have extremely tough on both myself and the children, but we are all making it. My wife has come and gone a few times mainly to pick up clothes and spend a few moments with the childen. Her attitude and behavior has been across the board. She even told our 5 year old to his face that becuase he was pitching a fit that she refused to stay any longer, and then she left. Something has changed her entire persona and the Adderal certainly seems to be the root cause. Right now I am looking inward to make sure that I can be a better man and husband for her no what the circumstances are surrounding our relationship, while at the same time loving my children unconditionally. I am hestitant to contact the doctor to question what diagnosis was given and why the Adderal itself was prescribed, without prescribing more mild drugs first. I am afraid that the doctor will approach her with my concerns, and let her know I have been in contact with him. I afraid this will set her off and push her further away from the children and I. BUT I know I will have to do this soon or the kids and I are going to lose an intregal part of our family for ever. I love my wife way too much to allow this to happen. I have another question relative to Adderal. What little I have seen of her lately, I have noticed that she is severely bruised or her legs and arms, and maybe other parts of her body, but I have not seen any more than her legs and arms. Is severe bruising a side affect of Adderal? She looks like she has been beaten.

  It definitely sound like you and your wife are dealing with something beyond ADHD. I have taken Adderall for ten years and it couldn't possibly cause behavior like this on its own but perhaps it was a trigger to show up other symptoms. Leaving her children like that is somethingthat I find incomprehensible and immoral. If you have any remaining influence on her guilt her (if you have to) into seeking help before she loses everything which were and which should be important to her.

If you have ADHD, Adderal should help calm you down and focus.  If you don't have ADHD, then you are taking speed.  It kinda sounds like this is what is happening to her.  I would try talking to the prescribing Doctor yourself and letting him know what is happening.  If he is not over receptive you might mention that he could be held libel for her condition (might be tough to prove, but I wonder what kind of a doctor he is, his follow up procedures, what dose he started her at, etc.).

It would be a good idea if your wife whent back to the prescibing Doctor and told him how she was feeling , it is possible she is having a reaction to Adderal, perhaps suggest she could ask if there is someting else she could take.
