does my son have adhd or ashburges syndrome

hi my son is 9 years old and since he was a toddler has had difficulties he had speach therapy from two and although can speak well now he still dribble sometimes when he talks and has a kind of lisp, he never shuts up from when he wakes to when he sleeps if he sleeps, he runs round the house screaming excitedly bouncing all over the furniture. he doesnt sleep and was prescribed with melatonin to help him relax at night time. his diet is very limited as he doesnt like tastes textures and smells and often says hes choking on food or its getting stuck, although hes not underweight and the doctor has said its phyclogical. he hurts his 6 year old brother constantly often holding his mouth and nose and although he very sorry afterward he doesnt seem to understand hes hurting him when hes screaming, he also comes in my bedroom ten times a night complaining of some ailment everything is over dramatized and critical hes popular at school as everyone knows him but he doesnt really have friends as they always fall out i took him back to the doctor last week and he said i could put his melatonin up at night but thinks i should leave it for a couple of years when he starts high school as you can tell more then do you agree and do you think he has a disability thanks helen

Good golly, what is it with doctors in the UK?  He, "thinks i should leave it for a couple of years when he starts high school as you can tell more then."   I can't believe a doctor would make that  statement.  Heck, why not wait till he has failed both high school and college, and hates himself.  Then you will really know more about him.
You must have some doctors over there that specialize in things like ADHD.  Granted in the states - our pediatricians may not always catch things, but there are other options like a pediatric psychiatrist.  Do you have that possibility?
I guess the big question is how does he do academically at school?  Do the teachers complain about his actions.  If not, then the doc may be partially right.
You have also mentioned a few things that make me think of of someone with Sensory Integration Disorder or SIDS.  It is often misdiagnosed as ADHD, and many doctors and schools are still not used to seeing it.  You can find out more about it here - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/index.html
Read up on it and see if any of it sounds familiar.
