I think the good folks over on the child behavior forum could help you with this as they are more experienced in dealing with young kids. I know that specialmom has mentioned some type of chew sticks or something.
And as your little guy learns to express his anger better, I would think that will stop this. Of course, learning the triggers to his anger will help. Using your "quiet space" immediately and letting him out as soon as he quiets down. Not trying to talk to him while he is going nuts will slowly help him control his outbursts.
