static shock

static shock

Hello.  I been dealing with static shock for about two months now and I cannot stand it anymore.  I use fabric softener, I do not come into contact with carpet at home or at my workplace.  This happens every day all day long.  I even shock my kids with my lips when I kiss them.  It has just become unbearable and Im afraid to touch things and close my car door cuz it hurts.  I even see the electricity run from my finger to whatever Im touching.  Does any one know what is happening to me, is it health related, and what can I do to avoid it?  Please HELP.

   Kinda of a weird question for this forum, but as an ex-science teacher I have a small degree of expertise in this area.
   I have never heard of this being health related.  Usually its related to very dry weather and rubbing (doesn't necessarily have to be carpet - could be your chair).  I would try wearing a pair of running shoes and see if that makes a difference.  The rubber in the sole should act as an insulator.  If that stops the problem, then experiment with shoes till you find one that does the same thing for you.  However, this will only work for static gained by walking.  If you pick it up by sitting (or sliding), then it won't help.  So try this.
   One - add a humidifier to your house or workplace.  That alone should make a huge difference.
    Two - discharge the static before it builds up too much (touch metal often).  I don't understand closing the car door as it should have discharged when you opened the door.  If the car is a problem, try sitting on a light piece of cardboard or paper.  If you wear hose of any type try going without it and see if it makes a difference.  Good luck and write back and tell me if any of this works (it should), someone else may be helped.
