That reminds me of me. It was always about having more energy or fitting in when I started with alcohol and then various party drugs. It's interesting how we migrate away from those into the realm of not caring drugs a bit more.
I didn't mention coffee, diet coke and I do like spending!
Congrats on 70 days J! I have 20 today!
OMG yes! I started when I was 18 with the wonderful discovery that I could dance at a party if I drank beer! Then I added pot, hash, LSD, and opium and found that if you mix them all together you can stop actually caring about anything. And so on.
As I aged the drugs would change with the circumstances, stresses, identity, social group etc.But drinking everyday at night with Valium got me through most challenges until 1983 when I tried to stop. I got sober in 1983 but continued on an off with pills in a gradually accelerating way. Substituting one for another on and off, wd, and on again.
I now am 70 days clean, the longest I've been clean in about 8 years has been 3 months.
I can also become addicted to Amazon.com, chocolate pudding snacks, and coca-cola! Doesn't take long either.
I started with cigarettes when I was 15, then alcohol around 18 and then tons of recreational drugs for years. Then I quit smoking and got sober in 2006 and not long after started the tramadol. I have 19 or 20 days free of that now. I'm concerned where I'll go next. Food is an easy one to fall back on, although I wouldn't say I'm addicted to it.
Absolutely I have. Although cocaine is my DOC and gave me the most problems, I am addicted to all drugs. Why does it take most of us so long to learn this, lol. I was going around in that circle too avis, no wonder i was so dizzy ugggg. Good post.
I started on alcohol then was given codeine for migraines and got addicted to them as well.I think with me it would be anything that makes me feel good.
When i quit drinking in 2002 i really hit the pills hard. I was so proud of myself for giving up the whiskey.....little did i know the he!! i was going to be living. It wasnt until i quit the pills did i understand that i had just swapped one addiction for another. This is so common and i hope others will have their eyes open to what can happen. Good thread avis.........sara
I pretty much stayed on hydro..that is bout all they give u round here
but i do know that alcohol is sumpin i need to beware of...everything is hunky dory til hard times hit..and turning to another substance can be very easy for us to do
