Constant twitching, is it ALS?

by Kesteral, Jun 07, 2008 02:24PM
I'm an 18 year old male who is subclinically hypothyroid but otherwise in perfect health. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my toes began to twitch. I woke up with it but the night before a muscle on my knee was twitching too, but that hasn't happened since. The twitch happens on almost every toe besides the big toe, but usually occurs on both of the little toes. It is more frequent in one foot, but it seems that the twitching has periouds where it's bad on one foot and then switches to the other. The whole toe moves with the twitch, very similiar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKppdQ6kQp0 except it happens less frequently. I've also noticed other random twitches over my body that last for a few seconds and then dissapear. As far as I know I've experienced no weakness or atrophy but I can't tell for sure. I certainly have no problems standing on my toes and when comparing each foot they are roughly as strong as eachother. The twitch only occurs when my toe is not touching something. When it's in a shoe or on the ground I can't feel or see the twitch. I have to confess that I am a very bad hypochondriac which is why I am posting here instead of going to the doctors, but I am quite worried about this twitch as it hasn't gone in 2 weeks. I am quite stressed too and I know twitches occur with stress, but it's the toe twitches I can't quite understand. Although I don't really notice it at all when I'm doing something/

Hi - I too have a hypothyroid.  I am taking synthroid and the blood levels are supposedly
in the normal range.  I am also a hypochondriac and very worried.  I have had an eye
twitch for 3 weeks now.  I have gone to my regular doctor, endocrinologist, opthamologist and a neurologist.  Today I took an mri and tomorrow I am taking an eeg.
I thought that maybe the synthroid didn't agree with me because these are the side effects of too much synthroid.I don't know what it is, but you sound a lot like me and I thought we could just touch base on this. Let me know how you are feeling.  Ambaumis
