could this be ALS

by gradebio, Aug 15, 2007 02:18PM
I am a 52 year old male. In about december of 06 a would get a tingling feeling in my right leg when I put the leg straight out. It felt uncomfortable so I would not sit with the leg in that position. In march of that year I noticed I had a change in my gait in my right leg, drop foot. I eventually went away and I noticed my gait returned to normal. Then in may the muscles of my lower right foot and ankle joint were sore after working all day, I take lipitor and have been on it for 8 years 40 mg. I would get intermittent muscle pain and that had traveled from my upper limbs to the muscles of my right and left buttocks (recently). I had one severe episode of muscle pain in my left arm about four years ago and my doctor took a blood test for CPK and it was only slightly elevated. The muscle and joint pain always went away and I did not stop taking the lipitor. The doctor took another blood test and told me if I had any other joint pain to stop taking the lipitor to see If the pain went away, it did not. I also noticed that the upper part of my right foot was numb, toe, and two next toes as well as my upper foot. The drop foot also returned and I still have this condition. A week later I went for a 21/2 mile walk at the end of the walk my right leg was very sore with ankle and toe pain and when I sat down I experienced severe pain in my foot. this was peripheral neuropathy it subsided after about 40 min. but totally incapacitated me for that time. The leg pain stayed with me at times but very mild. I then went an a trip to Sequoia Natural Park and each time I took a hike of more then 2 miles the intense peripheral neuropathy (very bad pain). I have not taken the lipitor since these incidents occured. When I retured home the peripheral neuropithy became very common I could not sleep and had to get pain pills and prednosome. Within the two weeks the peripheral neuopathy has declined and I hardly notice it, the numbness has also gone away exept for the top of my toe. No improvement in my drop foot. I can feel the peroneal nerve under my knee and when I tap it I can feel tingling down my leg. I went to a neurologist he thinks it may be a myopathy will get nerve conduction test sept, 17. I am very stressed out it could be ALS, now I am getting fasciculation mosltly in my feet occasionally other parts of my body. Are these symptoms consistant with ALS.
