worried like hell

Dear All,
i am a 30 yr old female. my problem started two months back. i had some sort of panic attack and then started having jerks twitches everywhere on my body. i was not able to sleep in night. my GP gave me a sleeping pill and rivotril(for anxiety). somehow the twicthes stopped but still since past 1 month i am having strange sensation in my body.It is like some very short quick vibration which i can just feel feel but cant see, all over my body. these are happening every sec(24 hrs). my legs and hands are very weak. since last three weeks i have also started ahving problem swallowing , sometimes my throat hurt very badly and sometimes there is no pain, but swallowing is a big problem secially saliva.. i met a neutosyrgeon who did a neurological test . everything was normal. i insisted him to do an emg which initially he declined by later he agreed just to keep me calm. EMG was done on hand and legs i mnth before... EMG results were normal...but i am still very afraid of ALS.. i am having difficulty swallowing( feel excessive saliva in my mouth)....strange vibrations like some worm running, but cant see them .....i am really scared.....plz help me. one more thing, i have low Vit B12

i really think this is anxiety!  my mom had bulbar onset ALS so I am very attuned to it.  I was diagnosed w/fibromyalgia this past summer and have a lot of muscle twitches as well as randomly moving pain around my body.  When i was in my 20's I had panic disorder which sounds a lot like what you are experiencing.  I have to say, that i still wonder if i have ALS due to my current symptoms and the fact that my mom had it, but i know logically that
I don't.  Please try to calm down.  i know its easier said than done!

First this pranayam will control the anxiety, and boost the nervous system, to improve the ALS symptoms.Do it for 30 minutes, twice a day and do not stop before 6 months. When you feel better continue the pranayam for 15 minutes daily, for life.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

When I heard about spasms a few days later I got spasms, I started paying attention to my mouth and then my mouth felt weird and out of whack, I started paying attention to my swallowing and then it started feeling weird. I can tell you, if you are constantly checking yourself and anxious, your screwing yourself up. If you've been doing this for quite a few months and no weakness or actual dysfunction of your swallowing or speach( meaning if you asked anyone it would be obvious) then it's very, very, very likely stress/ anxiety. When you are constantly checking and rechecking yourself you are wearing whatever body part your fixated on out. swallow hard for 12 hours and see what happens, your throat will be sore. Your first symptoms were panic attacks and anxiety. when you do the tests and scans and everything is normal. more than likely the issue is real but probably phscological in origin. We all know there are acceptions to the rules but in a rare disease to begin with you are pushing so hard toward a " snowballs chance in hell" type situation, you need to relax and maybe realize it's anxiety. I bet after a few weeks of just moving on you'll notice a difference. Relax, look at the symptom progression, starting with your first symptoms and take a deep breath. Then, Have a Merry Christmas.

P.S. My second neuro told me he has treated a 20 year old who develpoped paralysis in both legs, a lady who had hemiparisis on left side and a lady who went blind. All are back to normal and all were stress or anxiety induced. He also said that 50% of new patients end up being stress related issues. Relax

Have they done an MRI of your brain or spinal cord to rule out MS?  Vibrations in legs or parasthesia are a common symptom of MS.  Good luck!

I had very real symptoms( twitching, muscle stiffness, swallowing difficulty and leg weakness. After 2 months and negative emg, mri, bloodwork and no progressive symptoms. The dr's and tons of people have told me to stop worrying, it's not als. If I go back to my initial symptom of anxiety( really bad). I'm starting to feel better.

Hi,
I am so sorry for all your pain. Sometimes the frustration of seeing doctor after doctor is the hardest part of this whole diagnosis process.
Tell me, have they thought of Parkinson's Disease? All of your symptoms I have seen with Parkinson's.
Good luck,
jupiterjane
