ACCUTANE!

by mariss9027, Nov 10, 2008 02:39AM
Hi!

for the past few years i have been suffering from very bad cystic acne, last year after trying everything possible my dermatologist finally put me on accutane!
it worked like magic, my skin is not perfect now but i would say 95% better. It's been 7 months since i have been off accutane and just to keep my skin clear i am now on a very light gel i put on once a day and a pill i take once a day, hoping i don't have to go on a second cycle of accutane like some people do! my only problem now is since i had very bad cystic acne i am now left with these horrible deep scars, i have had two microdermabrasion treatments done and i didn't feel like i saw a result, i am not getting the laser treatments done i am going for my 3rd one this wed. i really don't feel like i am seeing a difference, does anyone have any suggestions of better, more effective treatments i should be doing?

thank you for any advice you give!!

Hi. Severe acne scarring will require a course of microdermabrasion treatments, so don't give up yet.
How many treatments has your clinic advised you are likely to be necessary for optimal results?

Mariss, your skin has gone through a lot already. Both microdermabrasion and laser procedures are effective, yet aggressive... yes, they work, but they're basically a controlled way to harm your skin, in the hopes of promoting tissue healing. Have you considered a milder treatment, to give your skin some time to recover from all this aggression? I always recommend this, because I believe in these effective measures: improve your nutrition, drink plenty of water, try natural skin care products, and expose your face to the sun for a minute or two, daily. Remember: half of the treatment depends on doctors, but the other half is yours  ;-)
