by ZOZO84, Dec 23, 2008 07:20AM
Hi, is the accutane dosage based on wieght or on how severve ur acne is......because im on 30mg a day since last month going into second and i have been disapointed my derm didnt increase my dosage (i dont have any side effects and im wondering if its working on a deeper level since i dont even have dry lips constantly or skin etc) ....i have a friend who took accutane for worser acne then mine and she has been acne free now for 3yrs she however did not mention this drug to me untill i asked her about how she managed to clear her skin.I think she finds its imbarssing to talk about since she wont even tell me details such as how much she took etc how long how many times and so on.I realy want the same sort of  restults that last and now im on the drug i dont know if my dosage is too low ......what are the dosages does anyone know the average dose for somone 58kg. thank you

Hi. The normal starting dosage for Accutane is 0.5mg per day x kg patients bodyweight. So if, for example, you weigh 60kg you would be prescribed 30mg a day. If your acne is particularly severe, or does not respond to this dose, it may be raised to up to 1mg per day x kg patients bodyweight ie 60mg.
Eloise.
