Accutane 16 wks not working

Accutane 16 wks not working

My doctor just upped me to 100 mg accutane a day and I took the first dose today.  I was on 80 last month, but on 60 for the first two months.   I am not getting better. I have huge cysts that keep filling up and sometimes draining.  I am so swollen he put me on prednisone for five days and this is the third time for the prednisone. I have been on Accutane for 15 weeks, so I guess I can only be on for 5 more weeks, is that right?  So, what happens if this doesn't work?  Can I stay on longer, or is there something else that might work?  I am 20 years old, and this started happening to me sometime around last feb.

you can take accutane for 24 weeks. It can then continue working for up to 8 weeks after you stop taking it. Sometimes after taking accutane other treatments which failed before may work. If you relapse or accutane was ineffective you may need a second course. I know what it's like, i've had two courses. loiloi x

i recommend that you stay on it as long as your doctor recommended you till your face is clear. stop stressing your self out and exercise and you're probably need higher dosages anyways and you're supposed to get worsen before better. just relax and chill

i know exactly how you feel. just try putting up with this at fifteen. this is my 2nd round of accutane that i'm on right now and i'm in 10th grade. i took my first round in 7th. my life has been tons of fun. i'm a female and am turning 16 in two months. accutane is not working for me the 2nd time. i'm taking 80mg i believe. and my doctor is keeping me on it for as long as possible. he said that the only way they were going to take me off in the reccomended time was if my cycsts stopped or if something went wrong (with my luck i wouldn't doubt it) i have also been on prednisone multiple times. i have taken 70 mg of that at least 8 times since 6th grade. it's a shame you can't stay on it forever, it works wonders. i have tried million of different pills and nothing seems to have worked for me. maybe you would have better luck but my suggestion is to just wtick with accutane. it is the strongest medicine out there and you just need to be paitent.  my doctor i'd see a difference within 2 months but i didn't. just be paitent, i am. let me know how this works out. email me at ***@**** i wish you the best of luck.

Your derm probably will not keep you on longer than 24 weeks on that kind of dose. I was on for 24 weeks and I was forced to be taken off. I begged to be on longer and she said no. My face broke out 2 weeks after stopping accutane and i start my second course in 1 month. She put me on Differin until then.

My daughter has been on Accutane now for almost two months.  She has been getting very frustrated by the fact that it doesn't seem to be working.  In fact, her skin looks much worse now than before she started.  She is getting more pimples on her cheeks than ever before and they are starting to look more like cuts than pimples.  They are very red and inflamed and her skin is extremely dry.  I have heard that it tends to get worse before it gets better but I am afraid that it is going to scar.  She started on 20mg a day and in the second month was brought up to 40mg.  Other than just dry lips and skin, she seems to be handling it well.  Should we ask the doctor about increasing her dose to 60mg?  When should she start seeing some clearing?  Also, I am curious about the post regarding excessive testosterone.   Do you think putting her on a birth control pill such as Yaz would help along with the accutane?  She has always had issues with oily skin/hair and dark hair on her arms...Wondering if there is a connection to the acne.  She has been struggling with it for years and is 17 now.  She just wants to have clear skin!
