Accutane and the liver

I am 28 and have had acne for most of my adult life.  Seven years ago, I took a course of Accutane and experienced remission for approximately 2 years.  I began another course of Accutane a month ago (80mg/day) and have responded very well so far (with only dry skin/lips experienced).  My liver test prior to taking acne was within the normal range.  Apparently my 2-week liver test was normal as well.  I took another liver test on the day of my 1-month dermatologist appointment (for the purpose of refilling my prescription) which came back above normal (I believe the nurse said they were a little elavated).  They are now taking me off the Accutane for two weeks and I will take another liver test at that point.  I did not drink alcohol or any protein shakes while on the medicine.  I believe Accutane is my only hope.  Is there anything I can do to offset the effect of Accutane on my liver?  Are there things to avoid other than alcohol and protein drinks?  I have read that physical activity can cause liver enzymes to elevate - should I not run or work out?  Do you think it's possible my dermatologist will put me back on Accutane?  The news that they were taking me off the medicine was very disheartening.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. You seem to be having liver function tests more regularly than I did. It doesn't sound like you will have to discontinue Accutane if your liver enzymes are only slightly elevated. If liver or kidney problems are experienced, the dermatologist may continue your treatment at a lower dose which may result in a longer treatment time.
