Accutane not curing

My Son is 19yrs old and has now been on 3 to 4 courses of Accutane along with various antibiotics and topical creams in between. He has now been off the Accutane for 1 1/2 month and the facial breakouts are starting. His skin reacts wonderfully while on the Accutane but as soon as he stops it, the acne returns. Do you have any advice on this. It so disheartening , the acne really has  a negative effect on him. He is such an extoverted and highly social young man but once his acne starts to appear he literally hibernates and is very distraught by it. He is currently on Tazorac and has been on many others topical acne meds but nothing but the Accutane helps. Please advise.

Hi - Has your son ever tried changing his diet?  It's one of the hardest things to do, especially at his age when he was to hang out with friends (which usually involves junk food eating).  My daughter started on a gluten free diet for other reasons.  I noticed the acne on her cheeks disappeared permanently.  Then we found out she was intolerant to all cow's milk products - when we got rid of that the acne along her jawline, back and chest disappeared.  Caffeine also seems to be a trigger.   She mainly eats protein, nuts, veggies, fruit and fat.  It's an extreme diet by today's standards, but it works.  If she cheats, she wears it on her face, back and chest.  I suspect getting these foods out of her diet help to restore hormonal balance.  Maybe your son has an insulin connection to his acne.  Alcohol, sugar, food intolerances, food allergies, stress, etc. can all trigger acne breakouts.  Some people need to get rid of one thing in their diet to help the situation, while others seem to need to get rid of many things to clear "the situation".  He can always try this approach and see if anything helps.  If he'd like to give it a try, I'll be happy to give you food ideas.  Good luck and I hope this helps.
