Accutane

by thordogg24, Sep 18, 2009 01:15PM
I have been on accutane for a little over a month.  A couple of questions. My initial dosage was 40 mg once a day.  I had a bad IB but my skin seemed to dry up right away.  In month two I was just put on 80 mg.  I am ending the first week of this and I seem to be breaking out again and my skin is getting oily again.  Is this due to the uppage in dose?  Also, when should I be taking the pills, at morning and night?  Or at the same time?  And what with?  I have heard milk is good because of the fat content.  Thanks So Much!  Thor

Hi.
Yes the temporary worsening of acne is due to the increased dose. I know this is annoying, but it is normal and a sign your medication is working.
You should be taking your pills in divided doses -half in the morning and half at night. Take your medicine with a glass of milk after a meal, the fat content will make more of your medicine available for your body to absorb.
Good luck and do get back to us with any questions.
Best Wishes, Eloise.
