Acne After Pill

by chickenbutt, Oct 26, 2008 05:56PM
I have recently gone off birth control about four months ago, give or take.  I have never had an acne problem, and now I have increased acne on my face but most on my back.  Could this be from going off the pill?

Hi. It is very likely that the combined pill was protecting you from acne, due to its oestrogen content. Acne occurs when male hormones, found in both male and female bodies, stimulate the oil glands in our skin.
Did you have a particular reason for coming off the pill? If not see your doctor about taking it again. Certain brands are better at preventing acne than others. These include Diane35 (Dianette in the UK) Ortho Tri-Cyclen (Cilest in the UK) and Yaz (Yasmin in the UK).
If you do not wish to take the pill, ask your doctor about the other oral and topical medications available to clear and prevent acne. These include antibioics and retinoids.
Eloise.
