Acne and Pregnancy

Hi. I've taken Accutane for 1 month only (1 tablet a day). I stopped taking it from the 3rd of June. I saw my last menstrual period 25th of May after which i tested positive for pregnancy. Chances are i concieved about 5-7 days after which i'd stopped taking Accutane. Can you please advice me on what to do? What are the chances that the baby concieved will be born with birth defects?

Hi Britney.
Women must use 2 methods of contraception (pill plus condom) whilst on Accutane due to the high risk of birth defects in exposed pregnancies. They must continue to do this for 5 weeks after stopping Accutane because the medicine can stay in your body for up to 5 weeks. On average it is out of your body in about 2 weeks, but we advise 5 weeks to be sure.
Studies suggest that 25% of babies exposed to Accutane are born with birth defects. The only way to know if your child has been affected is to have a scan.
