Acne and Severe dry skin.

HI, I am 24 and have had mild to moderate acne since I was 16. Currently I am not taking any medications for acne or any at all for that matter, however, my skin has gotten severely dry and flaky. It has never been this bad.. except for a year ago when I tried Proactiv, which did not work. I am wondering how or why after all of these years my skin has gotten so severely dry, just these past few months my skin has been so dry it makes my face look worse. On top of the acne! so i am wondering what I can do for my skin. Nothing seems to help. Lotions havent improved my face neither have facial scrubs.help!

Your skin keeps on changing over time. My foreheard got a lot oiler versus my cheeks which became drier. I have had great luck putting a little vaseline on my cheeks overnight to help the driness.
Hope it gets better.

Dry skin and acne has also been a problem for me. i scrubbed my face daily in attempt to not only clear the zits, but also to remove the flaky skin. It didn't help it was still ugly and uncomfortable...so I finally decided to go to the dermatologist. The doctor explained to me that it was my dry skin that was causing me to break out.I was perpetuating the problem with many over the counter medicines which promote drying. The dead skin was causing my face to produce more oil than usual...resulting in zits. She prescribed me 2 medicines, one to help clear the acne, and one to help with the dry skin. It worked wonders...I still had the occasional breakout, but my face was clear more often than not.
here are the names of those medicines...i reccomend requesting them:
dry skin: desonide lotion (.05%)
acne cream: klaron (sodium sulfacetamide lotion 10%)
good luck!
