Acne and Suicide

  Ihttp://dermnetnz.org/acne/acne-psychological-effects.html
I found this on the internet when looking up two of my concerns; acne and suicide or rather one of the reasons I want the other  and I wondered if this information was well known here. I thought it was very interesting. If you think it's depressing while in your teens when so many of your peers are so afflicted then how about a ramped attack of constant acne at the age of 42 and all over your body? I was told by my EXdoctor that this was "common". Funny but no one I know has experienced this at my age - no friends, no family, no one I see. Nothing seems to help and because of my suicidal ideations I can't even TRY Acutane.

That is ridiculous that your ex-doctor told you this is common. He must have underestimated that humans have eyes and can tell if other women in their 40s are experiencing acne. I am terribly sorry that you are experiencing acne at the age of 42. Perhaps you can see a better dermatologist and discuss using creams. Also, watch out for the body washes you are using and even hair products, clothing as well. Your body must be highly sensitive to everything around you. How long has this been going on?

It started subtly in my late teens - right when I thought I got to skip it. Then in my twenties I'd have a little trouble just before my period - not too bad. But then, a few years ago, I started getting severe outbreaks on my neck and jaws, then my buttocks, some on my face, on my shoulders....they always come in "crops" that is if I get one in some odd location I'll get more there and/or on the opposite symetrical site.
Thanks for your sympathy. It's so hard to be trying to fight wrinkles and bad acne at the same time. I appreciate it.

Hi. I was prescribed Effexor Venlafaxine for the Social Phobia associated with my acne. It really helped me and stopped the distressing thoughts I was having.
I have taken Accutane twice. A causal link between Accutane and depression has not been proven and many think the link is between acne and depression.
What are results like with topical retinoids such as Differin combined with an oral antibiotics such as Lymecycline?
Eloise.
