Acne on lips

by NwankwoKanu, Aug 04, 2009 04:45PM
I am 20 years old, and have been using 2.5% benzoyl peroxide as an acne treatment for a while. I recently noticed acne forming under the skin on my lips. They aren't big, localized pimples; it looks kind of like one big rash comprising dozens of tiny raised white dots. My questions are: could this have been caused by the benzoyl peroxide accidentally being applied to the lips? Are there any home remedies I could use to help alleviate the problem? And lastly, is it a good idea to use Carmex?

Hi. It sounds as if your lips have become sensitized due to benzoyl peroxide use. I recommend Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream to heal them.
Topical acne treatments should not come into contact with the eyes, lips or nostrils. If this is difficult because of the location of the acne, consider a course of oral antibiotics instead. Acne usually responds well to a course of Oxytetracycline or Lymecycline, discuss this with your doctor.
Eloise.
