Acne or rash?

I'm not sure if this is an acne or a dermatology question, but I will post it here first to see if anyone can help. My husband was complaining the other night about a sore spot on the top of his head and asked me to take a look at it. He thought that maybe it was a pimple because that was the kind of pain he felt from the area. However, when I looked at his head it appeared to be more like a rash with several flat red spots in the area in question. Has this ever happened to anyone else before? Any ideas on what to try to clear this up as it is somewhat painful? Thank you in advance for your help.
