Acne treatment

I'm suffering from acne and its quite a lot. i have tried facials and over the counter products it has not improved. And recently the spots and pimples itch. what can i do to treat the acne and clear the blackheads. Thank you.

Hi. If over-the-counter preparations are of limited benefit you need to see your doctor for a prescription strength gel such as Differin (adapalene). This is a topical synthetic retinoid which clears mild/moderate acne and blackheads. Your doctor may also think you warrant a course of oral antibiotics such as Lymecycline or Oxytetracycline to kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin.
Adult female acne patients will also benefit from taking the combined oral contraceptive pill as the oestrogen that it contains will block the action of androgens- the hormones responsible for acne.
