Acne

What is a good solution for acne?
I've tried Murad, Proativ, all sorts of creams.. Nothing seems to work. I'm only 21 and I've been struggling with acne since high school but recently I'm starting to get these bumps under my skin.. sometimes they take a while to surface completely but when they do.. some nasty puss looking stuff comes out and they usually leave scars or the "ice pick holes". I don't even like to look in the mirror at myself anymore. I just really want to get rid of acne completely and I just want clear skin for once! Can someone please help me?

i used to have the same problem and tried murad, only to find that it made matters MUCH worse. i upgraded my blush brush and choice of blush in the cosmetic range (which seemed to help a lot), but what mainly worked for me was the clean&clear blackhead scrub (it comes in a purple bottle), the nuetragena (sp?) on-the-spot treatment for the spots, and then i would moisturize with oil of olay daily moisturizer. i still get minor breakouts from time to time, but NOWHERE near what i used to have before... and it's mainly my own fault - sometimes i would forget to wash my face before bed.

hope this helps :)

Hi,

I've heard the bumps called Acne Cysts. I just can't seem to find anything to help my acne and I guess trying to hide it with makeup isn't really helping much. But I'll try this and see if it will help :) Thanks!

Hi ashibabe,

Have you seen your doctor? I have jsut recently started using a treatment from the doctor called isotrexin. I apply the gel all over before i go to bed. It works in 2 ways, 1. It helps to unblock the face and prevent further blockages and 2. It contains an antibiotic which stop bacteria from being able to multiply so the skin can heal and if bacteria is present it shouldnt form into a big ***** lump!

Ive been using it for 1 week and i can see a difference, its definitely starting to clear up. I do have some skin dryness but not alot, i can cope with it. i apply a light moisturiser in a mornin to help with that.

If you havn't already tried it, i would give it a go.

As you have found, over the counter remedies are of limited benefit for more severe types of acne. You should see your doctor for a more effective treatment quickly, to prevent permanent scarring.
Acne responds well to a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily. A topical retinoid such as Differin (Adapalene 0.1%) will also help.
Female acne patients often respond positively to taking the combined oral contraceptive pill, since the Oestrogen it contains blocks the actions of Androgens- the hormones responsible for acne. If your doctor decides you warrant both oral antibiotics and the pill use a condom as tetracyclines may interfer with the contraceptive properties of the pill.
Eloise.
