Adult Acne and Diet?

Adult Acne and Diet?

Lately, I've been trying to figure out why I keep getting cysts everyday.  Anyway,  I started to look into what I was eating. Well, when I went to the doctor, I asked her whether it had something to do with my facial washes.  But, she said cystic acne or adult acne is really something internal.

I used the topical treatment to treat the existing acne after she had prescribed it to me, but still ate the same.  Well, other places on my face started to break out with cysts.  So she was right, the cystic acne wasn't a result of my facial routine or anything external. It had to be internal.  It does suck being a woman and having hormones constantly changing.  =(  Well, hormones has a lot to do with oilier skin, but I'm not that keen on going on birth control pills unless I have PCOS.    Cystic acne is due to hormones, toxins in the body and internal bacteria.  The later two can be controlled with diet which is what I have found to be effective.       Has anyone heard of candidas?  Candidas can also be mistaken for PCOS.  Well, it's a bacteria that everyone has.  If there is an overgrowth, this can cause acne.  The only thing that feeds this bacteria is sugar.  You can test if you have this by doing a simple water test.

Well, it's been day 3 of my no sugar, no salt diet, and things have seem to improve a lot.  I think when you have good health, you're body will treat you better. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts about Adult and Acne and Diets, please share. =)

Hi, I'm glad that your acne is improving. Officially, no causal link has been established between diet and acne. They once did a study where one group of people ate only chocolate and their acne was no different from that of the control group who ate normally. That said i do avoid cow's milk as it has hormones in, and as you know hormones are one of the causes of acne. I know we've spoken before, but please remind me: Why are you reluctant to take an anti-androgen birth control pill? and have you ever taken Accutane? Thanks, Eloise x

After many years of trying various methods I finally figured out that caffeine was the cause of my adult cystic acne.  If I were to drink a cup of coffee right now tomorrow I would have a breakout of cystic acne.  Cut out all caffeine from your diet and see what happens.  No more coffee, tea, chocolate, etc.  This just might be the cause of yours as well.

That's an interesting link - I'll have to check it out. Personally, I don't think there is any link between your diet and your skin - but that's only because the healthiest people I know (vegetarians, marathon runners, etc. - people who eat right every day and really take care of themselves) also have the worst skin. And every one else I know, who don't watch what they eat, could care less about a "skin care regimen" (if they even wash their skin at all, other than soap and water) - have the best skin I've ever seen. But I completely agree that some acne is internal - I've tried every topical treatment under the sun, and the ONLY thing that gets me clear is oral antibiotics.
