Affording Accutane Without Insurance (Including Bloodwork and Dr's Visits)

by purplesoccershoe, Apr 03, 2007 12:00AM
Help!!!  I do have health insurance, but it does not cover ANY acne treatment.  I was on Accutane for the first time about 10 years ago and was told then I'd probably need another round of it in the future.  They were right... I do, but unfortunately this time I am on (very minimal) student health insurance instead of on my parents' good insurance, and I don't know what to do.  I have already started my first month of treatment, and I just CANNOT continue to pay out of pocket for this ($85 doctor's visit, $250 for blood tests, $50 pregnancy test, $250 for the prescription itself).  Do I have any other options???  Is there any kind of independent health insurance I could get?  Any discount prescription plans that cover Accutane (or preferably the generic versions)?  As a student on a very tight budget, I must find SOMETHING else.  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you so much,

Jaime

Most every pharmaceutical company offers a Patient Assistance Program.  Talk to your dermatologist and ask him or her to help you find out if you qualify for the program.  You might be able to get Accutane at a discount, and in some cases even free.

Your doctor will have to help you submit the proper forms, but it's worth a try.
