Ance and scars

hello every1, i have a few questions here...i really hope someone could help me out.
how to prevent pimples? any treatment for scars? is mederma good for scars and in what way?
i want to dermatology before, he gave some pills ( Oratane ) 10mg, 2per day, and benzoyl peroxide 5%.
the meds he provided was for pimples, and i dont see any great improvement at all, in fact there are more of them. ( pimples)
the next thing that bother me was the scars on my face, small red spots, lots of them, the type where people stare at you when you go out.
Any suggestion is appreciated....thanks a lot

Hi. Is Oratane a generic form of Accutane (oral Isotretinoin) ? We don't have that brand name here in the UK.
Oral Isotretinoin is the most effective acne treatment available. It virtually always results in excellent or total skin clearance after one course lasting 16-24 weeks. Did you take it for the recommended time without improvement?  It is common to experience an initial breakout -temporary worsening of acne during the first few weeks, but it will then improve.
I wouldn't use Benzoyl Peroxide once the Isotretinoin starts to kick in as this will increase dryness of the skin. Instead use a bland cleanser and moisturiser such as Cetaphil, La Roche-Posay, Eucerin or Lutsine during therapy with oral Isotretinoin.
Eloise.

Hi again. If you are in the UK it is unusual to get a generic brand, it is usually called Roaccutane. Anyway, 20mg is a very low dose. The usual dose is 0.5mg X kg patients bodyweight per day. So you would not take 20mg unless you only weighed 40kg. Or, did your dermatologist prescribe a low dose because you have kidney or liver problems? In this case you would have taken it for longer than 16-24 weeks to make sure it worked.
