Hi.
Acne is caused by a sensitivity to the effects of androgens. Androgens are male hormones like testosterone, found in male and female bodies. Androgens stimulate the sebaceous glands which cause oily skin. Bacteria on the skin feeds off this excess oil (sebum) blocking the pores and leading to spots.
The best way to treat this is with a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline and/or a topical retinoid gel such as Differin. Female acne patients also respond well to taking the combined oral contraceptive pill such as Yasmin, as the oestrogen it contains blocks the action of testosterone on the skin.
To the best of my knowledge, low iron levels have no effect on this process.
Eloise.
