At The End of my Rope!! Is Accutane Worth it?

by naturalblonde, Jul 13, 2009 08:34PM
Hi! I'm 20 years old and have had acne since I was 12. I have LITERALLY tried everything. I've been through two dermatologists, have been on two antibiotics and pretty much every cream you can think of (tazorac, differen, that one that smells like sulfer, you name it) . Not only that, but when I was put on a cream that contained Benzoyl Peroxide, about 2 months in I had an allergic reacction and my face swelled up. So on top of all that I am allergic to one of the most popular acne ingrediants. I was also on birth control for about a year and a half. Then I started with the over the counters (skin ID, Murad, Acjuva, Acne MD, Neutrogena, toners, astringents, oil free everything). Still I had nothing. So finally I've gone back to the dermatologist (a new one) and He suggested I go on Accutane. I'm nervous about joint pain because I've grown up dancing, and even now I run everyday. I've heard some pretty scary things about Accutane. Could someone who's used it please tell me if it's worth it? I'm soooo at the end of my rope!

I took Accutane when I was 15 and I'm currently 17. The first few months I was on it I had none of the side effects. It was perfect. Then the last month and a half my skin got really dry, and I was constantly applying moisturizer to try to keep my skin from peeling. My lips were so dry they bled.

Now, two years later it was probably the best thing I could have done. I do some modeling, which had always been a goal but never seemed possible. Overall I am much more confident with myself, and although I get the occasional pimple it's NOTHING compared to how it was before.

Hi. Accutane is your best hope of a long term remission from acne. 80% of patients need just one course lasting 16-24 weeks to have clear skin for good. Please see the pictures in my profile.
