Benzoyl peroxide causing acne?

Im 21 and have had acne throughout my life and I could never figure out what is causing it.. I was doing okay, just a few real minor breakouts every now and then using neutrogena facial bar and some clindamycin phosphate gel, but then I started using a Benzoyl peroxide cleanser and began to break out like crazy, worse than ever before in my life. I continued for about a month and it didnt get any better so I've stopped and it seems to be just as bad now about two weeks later. I'm wondering how long it will take for this breakout to go away because it just seems to keep coming back just as bad. Now im using the Neutrogena acne bar again with some Dermamed acne gel to try to be natural and not use chemicals like benzoyl. Did starting benzoyl make it break out, and did stopping give the same effect?

Does shaving help or hurt the acne? Should I have stopped using the BP, I want to be natural and not use chemicals..
