Break out

I don't really know what this is, and my mum wont take me to the doctor just yet so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm a 17 year old girl whos never had spots/pimples/acne, nobody in my family ever has either. If somebody does get a spot, it will be there for a few days and then go. It's quite rare...

About two weeks ago I got a spot just under my chin, and it went away after about 2 days... but then it came back. That one spot has now multiplied into about 8 or 9, just in one area under my chin! everywhere else on my face is flawless, just this one area under my chin spots just keep seem to be spreading and spreading. I'm a very clean person, I cleanse and moisturise every day, I haven't eaten any different foods recently and i changed my bedsheets/make up brushes so i dunno what it could be.

My mum bought me some clearasil, but it doesn't seem to be working, it's just getting worse. :( I should also let you know my skin type is DRY! so this is very odd for me to get spots... anyway heres two pictures i took from my webcam... because i'm not even sure it is spots anymore, my sister said they don't look like spots.

Can anybody help me?

Hi.
Spots on the chin may be a type of acne called Peri-oral dermatitis. This responds well to a course of oral antibiotics called Oxytetracyline. Females with this type of acne will also benefit from taking a special oral contraceptive pill called Dianette or Diane35. (Reassure your Mum this is commonly prescribed for hormonal acne, I am not suggesting you are sexually active yet).
Acne is not caused by being unclean and unfortunately cleansing regularly and having a healthy diet/lifestyle is not enough to clear it. Acne is caused by a sensitivity to the effect of androgens -male hormones found in male and female bodies. (This is common in people your age, but your doctor may wish you check that you don't have an underlying condition such as Polycystic Ovaries). Androgens stimulate the sebaceous glands in the skin. Bacteria on the skin feed off this sebum, blocking the pores and leading to inflammed spots.
Prescription medicines (the pill, antibiotics and/or topical retinoids such as Differin) are much more effective than Clearasil. I suggest your Mum does take you to the doctor as if untreated these spots may leave scars and cause you distress.
Ask your Mum to read this and get back to me with any questions she may have.
Best Wishes, Eloise.
