by 00zozo00, Jun 29, 2009 10:51AM
Hi, after suffering with acne for many years and trying everthing i finaly got on accutane its been about 3 months since my last and final visit to the derm(30mg for 19 weeks and my weight 58kg) my progress on accutane was grate and i was very worried about not being kept on for 24weeks.And since i have stoped the medication my skin has started to get oilyer and im having fequent breakouts.... although my skin isnt as bad as before im still very upset and am unsure of what to do ........im currently using some left over differin gel etc(but i was told my skin woudl get better even after i stop the med not WORSE) i realy wanted a long remission and it looked as though i was cured untill the derm took me off the med withing a few days i noticed changes in my skin...i realy want to go back on the medication but am unsure of the procedure since my care has been retured to the gp(via NHS).....can anybody give me information on  SECOND COURSE.....im even considering going private......any information and advice is much welcomed (also if anyone has any information on cost of dermatoligist in uk  that would be very helpful too)
thanx

Hi. 80% of Roaccutane patients experience a long term remission from acne after one course of treatment lasting 16 to 24 weeks. 20% of patients (including myself) require a second or third course. I had this on the NHS, I live in Bristol and got an appointment more quickly by agreeing to have medical students at my consultation.
Continue with the Differin and ask your GP to prescribe some oral antibiotics whilst you wait for an appointment with the Dermatologist. You must wait 5 weeks after finishing Roaccutane before taking Tetracycline antibiotics and you must wait 8 weeks inbetween courses of Roaccutane.
